Buying a laptop does not look as easy as it should be. Given that it’s quite a lot of money to be invested for a commoner a like me, I’d like to choose one which I do not regret later. When the thought of buying a laptop for myself emerged, Apple MacBook Pro was the first choice. Not very late a thought about the price tag and its implications on my finances washed the thought of Apple out of mind for now.
Then came the Dell vs. HP confusion. The dv2 of HP almost had except for the processor and the fact that it was a netbook. Next came the dv5 with good feedback from a few colleagues who already have them. My mind being inquisitive went through the Studio 15 from Dell and is equally impressed. And that gives rise to the confusion HP dv5 or Dell Studio 15. And the confusion has left me blogging about it. Any thoughts anyone? Dell or HP?
notify me of yer decision soon buddy!! for me needs one too and am doing no thinking about it and plan to rely on yer
@goofy
well man.. thinkin of settling down with a HP… let’s c…
Well, I hope that I am not too late with my comment here. If you still haven’t brought the laptop yet, here’s a word from a guy who has both HP dv4t and the Dell Studio 1535. This is my outlook, over here in the USA.
I got the HP from my work (as a replacement for another HP that my manager had to take). It came with good features, 14.1 inch monitor, 2.0Ghz processor, 2 GB ram, 160GB HDD, etc. It performs quite well even today and I am able to run all applications that I need for my work (even some enterprise applications). But the only complain I would say is the processor. Even at temperatures of 70 F, the processor would always heat up and I would find it difficult sometimes to type in it, as the palm rest would be scorching hot. I had it sent to HP for repair, they sent it back the same way, saying all is well. I would recommend to have at least 3GB memory, as HP comes preloaded with some valuable applications that require a lot of memory. That and the other applications you install, make the boot time and runtime quite a drag. I googled the issue and found quite a few people had the same problem with the dv4t and the HP tablet PC.
Now, for the Dell Studio 1535. This is my personal laptop that I got in Sept 08 and I got it fully loaded during the Thanksgiving Day Sale. It was a real deal, with 2.2GHz, 3GB ram, 250GB HDD, webcam, bluetooth, and a 256MB graphics card. It works great for anything and everything. I also get my work done in it, when I take it home. I also use it to play online games (Halo 2). The only issue is the default sound card. The mic, for some reason, adds static to your voice (maybe it doesn’t like my voice). I haven’t found time to send it yet for repairs, but I hope that it will be taken care of once I do. I googled this issue and found many others having the same problem, and most had it fixed when they upgraded their sound drivers. I had no such luck.
My recommendation over here is the Dell Studio 1535, but that’s over a dv4t, not the dv5t. Regardless, I would recommend a high config system for a tech geek.
Wait for Nokia N97. Who needs laptop when you can have everything in your pocket?
Another perspective to confuse you!!!!
@ Francis
Thanks pal!! One of the most detailed views on both the brands. I was indeed looking at the studio series but yet to confirm on it. Looks like i will go for it.
Thanks a lot for the patient write up man! And hope we catch up sometime. It’s been pretty long! Thanks for visiting!
@ Prashanth
Thank you!
Oh No!! Not another device to add to the confusion. I am looking for a desktop replacement and think will go for a laptop and the N97 will sure have a look at it – sure sounds interesting!
